Each of my studies include a deep dive into the cultural background to which the book was originally written. We'll do this in the form of a Book Overview Study at the beginning of each and every study. This helps us understand 1) the original audience, 2) the author's background, and 3) how to properly apply it out our twenty-first century lives. I promise: once you study this way, you won't want to do it any other way!

Did you know the Bible is written in different genres? There is poetry and prophecy and history and wisdom literature and MORE. Can you imagine how poorly your life would go if you interpreted a novel the same way you did a cookbook? What a mess that would be! And yet sometimes we do that exact same thing with the Bible. Not around here; we'll study the genre of each book we study so that we don't miss anything important.

The Bible was originally written primarily in Greek and Hebrew, and there are some incredible insights that can be gained when we study particular words in the original Text. This isn't essential for Bible study, but consider it the icing on the Bible study cake. In each study, we'll look at a few words in Greek or Hebrew, find out where else they're used in Scripture, and better understand how those words are being used in the Text before us.
